Important note on changes to the curriculum and module This thematic module introduces students to key issues and debates of today`s world, such as inequality, diversity and pluralism, migration, human rights, global justice, environmental change and democracy. This module develops critical thinking by challenging students to re-evaluate their original perspectives and encourage them to think critically about the global fields in which SOAS excels. During the study of this module, students will examine all areas of SOAS expertise and explore the importance of global issues and issues discussed in different regions. Foundation Year is particularly suitable for students who need additional study before starting a bachelor`s degree, including those who have not earned the grades required for direct entry into a bachelor`s degree program or who have not already studied a related subject.

Students who successfully complete the foundation year can enroll in another bachelor`s degree program at the college. Students are supported in choosing the program of study they wish to pursue under supervision. Subject to availability, students may transition to all of the College`s other undergraduate programs, including LLB, but with the exception of LLB and Advanced LLB. Upon successful completion of their studies, students will graduate with a diploma name and subjects studied based on the basic degree. If a Level 4 entry visa is required, a SELT such as UKVI IELTS may be required. For this reason, we recommend that all Tier 4 visa students choose the UKVI IELTS academic test as a first resort. Students residing in the UK who are pursuing a full-time degree or certificate programmes are eligible for a non-means-tested Student Finance or SAAS tuition fee loan to cover the cost of their tuition fees. International students applying for an integrated CAS for the 4-year integrated degree (foundation year + BA/BSc study programme) must indicate on the CAS application form which BA/BSc study programme they will advance to at the end of the foundation year. Knowledge and understanding of the module and the skills to be developed were determined taking into account the objectives of the programme – including the overall objective of preparing students for UG study at SOAS. The introduction to different disciplines and approaches prepares students for the UG program of their choice and helps them choose a program of study. This preparatory year prepares students to enter a three- or four-year bachelor`s degree program at SOAS. During the foundation year, students take modules on academic practice, working with numbers, digital skills and technologies, current global issues, and cultural mastery.

You will also receive an introduction to various academic disciplines taught at SOAS in schools and departments of finance and management, economics and law. The foundation year is particularly suitable for students who need additional study before starting undergraduate studies, including students who do not have the necessary grades to enter directly into undergraduate studies or who have not already studied the corresponding subjects. Students who successfully complete the foundation year move on to another undergraduate program at the school. Students are supported in making a guided decision about the program they wish to study. Advancement to all other undergraduate programs at the school is possible, subject to availability, including the LLB, but without the BA Law and Senior Status LLB. After successfully completing their studies, students will graduate with the title of the degree and the subject that continued after the foundation year. In this module, students develop core skills and skills related to digital technologies and media, including core programming, web design, video production and editing, and sound recording and production. This module introduces students to the disciplines of business and management, economics and law. Students have a broad understanding of each topic, which lasts about 5 weeks each. You will examine the relationships between these disciplines and gain insight into the value of perspectives from different disciplines. The experience they gain in each subject will help inform their choice of study after the foundation year, while the module`s global focus provides the basis for further selection of areas and topics that students may wish to study in more detail.
