Nysed High School Graduation Requirements

The State of New York sets the requirements for the degree. Some requirements differ depending on the year a student started high school. These requirements are described on various completion request cards located in the DOE InfoHub. The Diploma Requirements Worksheet is a printable resource that you can use with your school to track students` progress toward graduation. You can use this worksheet as a tool to compare your student`s transcript information with graduation requirements on this page. You should contact your advisor if you think your student is not on track to graduate. If your student has a disability, you can ask your counsellor for additional options. For more information on graduation requirements or to obtain a copy of graduation application cards, contact your student`s school. All of these diplomas are valid high school graduates. All students can earn a Regents or Advanced Regents degree.

An advanced degree of regent allows students to demonstrate additional skills in mathematics, science, and languages other than English. Only certain students who meet certain criteria can earn a local degree, with lower exam results. In order to earn a degree, students must earn certain course credits and pass certain Regent exams. If you believe your student is not on track to graduate, please speak to your school counsellor immediately. Students must score 65 or higher on these five exams to receive a degree of regent. All students can earn a Regents or Advanced Regents degree. Some students also have the opportunity to obtain a third type of degree called a local degree. This option allows some students to graduate with lower exam results. Some students with severe disabilities may obtain the credential and achievement instead of a diploma.

This designation recognizes students` achievements in science, career development and other foundational skills. This is not proof of completion. New York State and New York City have changed certain policies related to the completion of completion requirements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All students can obtain the initial CDOS certificate, which is not a degree. This evidence recognizes students` preparation for entry-level work. It may be awarded as the only qualifying qualification, obtained as confirmation of a diploma or used to complete the fifth examination option. Students eligible for entry may continue to attend school until they graduate from high school or until the end of the school year, when they turn 21 (whichever comes first). In New York State, students can earn three types of degrees: Students need 44 credits in these areas to earn a Regent degree. Students will need 44 credits in these areas to earn an Advanced Regents degree. This is the same total number of credits as a regent degree, but with more courses in a language other than English (LOTE) and fewer electives. Talk to your student`s advisor to learn more about these options and if they apply to your student.

Students only need two World Language credits to obtain an Art or CTE confirmation. Some students who have a disability that makes it difficult to learn a language may earn credits in other subjects instead of world languages.
