Her impeccable comedic timing, coupled with an exceptionally strong voice, played a crucial role in transforming what the blonde character could have been into the provocative and stubborn woman we saw on stage. If nothing else is legally blonde a wonderful reminder of the abundant talent of our young people Book now: www.oxfordplayhouse.com/events/l. For MYCO creative director Guy Brigg MBE, it was a huge labor of love to bring to life the popular musical, portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in the iconic 2001 film, especially after their last production Chess was cancelled due to Covid. Based on Amanda Brown`s novel and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film The Humor Was Delightful, the favorite “Gay or European” number has plunged audiences into hysteria, as has UPS driver Kyle (Sam Blake) and his biggest fan, the highly entertaining Paulette (Freya Dobson). This production is brought to you by the Musical Youth Company of Oxford – an extremely talented company of 50 young people. They are the most recent recipients of the Flame Award for Inspirational Contribution to Musical Theatre, among many other awards and nominations. The other members of the company are Max Wappner, who plays Warner, and Freya Dobson as Paulette, a set of 48 energetic and perfectly trained youngsters and very cute dogs. “So yes, Legal Blonde is a big deal.
We want to bring something new, brilliant and alive to Oxford, something that pulls us out of the doldrums. The company is thrilled to bring its energy, songs and smiles back to the Playhouse stage. So book Legally Blonde at the Oxford Playhouse from Wednesday 13 to Saturday 16 April, enjoy the undeniably joyful songs and pink set, as well as the cautionary tale of a fashion-conscious young woman chasing a man at Harvard, and see some of Oxfordshire`s most talented youngsters shake off the lockdown blues and perform on stage again. Dog lovers will be delighted by the sorting of delicacies that come in the form of Ted (Bruiser) and Willow (Rufus and Monty). Said friend Warner (Max Wappner) turns out to be a double snob inger, but she moves on, chooses her friends carefully and triumphs in the end. Ready to take the stage with a cast of 48 teenagers, the enthusiastic participants have been rehearsing hard since September. Director: Guy Brigg MBE Music Director Julie Todd All performances at the Oxford Playhouse are now sold out at full capacity, in line with government and UK guidelines. They want to convince their audience of their safety when they visit the Oxford Playhouse. They continue to follow the safety and hygiene measures recommended by the government, including specific advice for performance venues.
Bend over and grab your tickets for this funny, contagious (and pink!) Now, to resist the temptation and allow socially acceptable time before rewatching the film – I`m giving myself until tonight. “The world is so dark and tragic right now and we want to offer a moment to take everyone for the evening for frivolous fun and exhilarating music,” adds Guy. After the Covid-related cancellations of their previous show Chess, Guy Brigg MBE, Creative Director of the Musical Youth Company of Oxford (MYCO), made the difficult decision to do it again. What better performance to do so than perhaps its complete antithesis, Legal Blonde? “I`m very, very proud of MYCO this year. They rehearsed so loudly and it will be very emotional for all of us on opening night. To spread some joy and enthusiasm. It`s a really exciting show,” Guy concludes. The Musical Youth Company of Oxford is an Oxford-based musical theatre group for teenagers aged 12 to 19, which produces one main performance per year. Supported by her friends (and her dog!), she arrives at Harvard and discovers that not only can it be very rewarding to be smart, but that it is necessary to stay true to yourself to truly succeed. We sang, rocked and stamped our feet, clapped and applauded, gasped and smiled, and then stood up to give the young cast of Legally Blonde a well-deserved ovation. It was a happy, fun, moving and uplifting evening.
It took a long time, but MYCO finally returned to the Oxford Playhouse with a dynamic adaptation of Legally Blonde. Butler`s co-stars Freya Dobson (Paulette), Mason Chandler-Wickens (Emmett) and Max Wappner (Warner) also played their roles, with Warner being the perfect amount of hate — and I say that in the finest way. The vast ensemble of 48 energetic performers (+2 doggos) – even if it seemed to lack stage space at times – did an excellent job of choreographing Dan North and maintained its energy and enthusiasm throughout the show. It was a pleasure to see such a diverse cast; Another welcome contrast to that of the film. Aside from the occasional hard-to-hear line, the performance was seamless. MYCO`s energy and dedication was palpable throughout, creating an uplifting and enjoyable show. I highly recommend leaning over and buying tickets (I hate myself) for this show in Oxford until Saturday, April 16th – you won`t miss it.
