Get it on Audible as your first free book when you sign up! The first novel in the First Law trilogy and the first novel of New York Times bestseller Joe Abercrombie. I read a review in which the reader complained that the book was too much like the first in a trilogy. Well, duh. It`s. But I can see what he was getting at, Joe could have made it a more complete story, but essentially The Blade lays the groundwork for the epic fantasy that is the First Law series. Sometimes it is better not to get into all weapons. The audiobook of the blade itself is one of the best fantasy novels I`ve ever heard. This book is dark. Anthracite. If your humor is as dark as mine, and you don`t mind if a character sometimes gets an axe on their head, then this series is for you. And then there`s the sorcerer Bayaz, the first of the Magi, an old man with a shivering apprentice and his own agenda. There are scores to be settled, murderous plots are underway and everyone`s life is becoming very complicated. Thank you for your full review.
I don`t usually like audiobooks, but I`ve heard that this one is good. My problem is the narrator, if they`re not good, it takes me out of the story. Very intimidating >> This uncut audiobook version can only be enjoyed exclusively at Audible. The blade itself introduces us to characters with varying degrees of horror. Nevertheless, the reader can`t help but take care of them or at least complain about them. There is nothing superficial or superficial about these characters (maybe Jezal) and we want to know more about them. Logen Ninefingers is an evil man. A very bad man. But I don`t think it`s bad. As Joe wrote, “Does the devil know he is the devil?” I like dressing rooms because, despite everything, he tries to be a better man. He`s smart and funny, if not slightly crazy with a penchant for killing, but his heart is in the right place. Noble, dashing officer and model of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than to deceive his friends with cards and dream of glory in the circle of fencing.
But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen north, they are fighting according to completely bloodier rules. Jezal may be my favorite character. ONLY because it`s so much fun. Her resemblance to today`s superficial teenage girls is disturbing. There is an entire page dedicated to how much Jezal likes to admire himself in the mirror. Jezal grows over the course of the series, but for the most part, he spends most of his time thinking about how to put his best sister to bed and complaining about her fencing training. Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temperament and a pathetic assistant, he could be the first of the Three Kings, he could be a spectacular cheater, but anyway, he is about to make the life of the lodges, Jezal and Glokta much more difficult.
Unpredictable, captivating, damn funny and filled with unforgettable characters, The Blade Itself is a dark fantasy with a real edge. Logen Ninefingers is a notorious barbarian of the bloody north and ultimately has no luck. He made many enemies in his time and leaves after the death of his friends to build a new life. Inquisitor Glokta, a cripple turned torturer, wants nothing more than to see Jezal return home in a box. But Glokta hates them all: suppressing the Union`s betrayal, one confession after another, leaves little room for friendship. His last trail of corpses could lead him straight into the rotten heart of the government if he can stay alive long enough to follow him. Inquisitor Glokta, a crippled and embittered relic of the last war, former fencing master turned torturer, is trapped in a twisted and broken body – so as not to let him distract him from his daily routine of torturing smugglers. Captain Jezal dan Luthar, a noble and dashing officer and future fencing master, leads a relaxed life by cheating on his friends to the cards. Vain and superficial, the biggest horror on the horizon is having to get out of bed in the morning to train with obsessive and boring old men.
Murderous conspiracies are coming to the surface, old accounts are ready to be settled, and the line between the hero and the villain is sharp enough to make blood flow. Logen Ninefingers, the notorious barbarian, is ultimately out of luck. Caught in one too many quarrels, he is on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian – leaving only bad songs, dead friends and many happy enemies. Glokta is the most bitter and self-pitying character I`ve ever met, and it`s incredibly refreshing. Interesting to have a character who would like to die, but who is not suicidal. We spend a lot of time in Glokta`s head and find out how smart he is. It is remarkable that he has remained healthy after all this time. He`s hilarious cynical, one of the most humorous characters, which helped lighten the mood a bit. `); doc.close(); } } this.iframeload = function () { var iframe = document.getElementById(iframeId); iframe.style.display = “; setTimeout(function () { setIframeHeight(initialResizeCallback); }, 20); } function getDocHeight(doc) { var contentDiv = doc.getElementById(« iframeContent »); var docHeight = 0; if(contentDiv){ docHeight = Math.max( contentDiv.scrollHeight, contentDiv.offsetHeight, contentDiv.clientHeight ); } return docHeight; } function setIframeHeight(resizeCallback) { var iframeDoc, iframe = document.getElementById(iframeId); iframeDoc = ((iframe.contentWindow && iframe.contentWindow.document) || iframe.contentDocument); if (iframeDoc) { var h = getDocHeight(iframeDoc); if (h && h != 0) { iframe.style.height = parseInt(h) + `px`; if(typeof resizeCallback == « function ») { resizeCallback(iframeId); } } else if (nTries. In the city of Adua, the noble Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than playing cards and winning glory in the fencing tournament.
Conceited and stupid, Jezal thinks little more than his perfect jaw and bedding. I was also disappointed with the female characters in the blade itself. Ardie, one of the main characters, is abused and wallows in self-pity/hatred and alcohol. The other character, Ferro, is pretty much there to make everything difficult, chat with everyone, and remind the listener how difficult an angry woman can be. If Ardie had shown a little more determination and helped herself, I think I would have loved her more. Ferro is ruthless, but seems to consist only of a desire for revenge. I think Abercrombie could have done much better with his female characters, I know he can! Steven Pacey is an incredible storyteller. I don`t think Joe could have asked for anything better. Sometimes it`s hard to believe that it`s a man who creates all these voices. Pacey does a great job of bringing the characters to life, with expert pace and varied storytelling, he turns a good book into a great one.
Glokta, oh Glokta. I`ll be honest, towards the end of the series, I`m a little tired of his constant references to his time in Gurkish prisons. Every page from Glokta`s point of view mentions either her pain, her empty gums, or her trembling eye. But I guess this is the life of a cripple. Things got a little repetitive towards the end with this character. I hope you enjoyed our audiobook review `The Blade Itself`, check back soon!.
