Document notes may have parent-child relationships, but notes should not be considered a hierarchical database in the traditional sense of information management systems. Notes databases are also not relational, although there is a SQL driver that can be used with Notes, and it has some features that can be used to develop applications that mimic relational functionality. Notes does not support atomic transactions and its file lock is rudimentary. Notes is a document-oriented database (document-based, schema-free, weakly structured) with support for rich content and powerful indexing capabilities. This structure mimics paper workflows, which are typically automated by Notes. IBM Notes includes a database management system, but Notes files are different from relational databases or object databases because they are document-centric. Document-oriented databases such as Notes allow multiple values in elements (fields), do not require a schema, have built-in document-level access control, and store rich text data. IBM Domino 7 through 8.5.x supports the use of IBM DB2 databases as alternative storage for IBM Notes databases. However, this NSFDB2 feature is now in maintenance mode with no further development planned. [15] An IBM Notes database can be mapped to a relational database using tools such as DECS, [LEI], JDBCSql for Domino, or NotesSQL. [16] Previous versions of Lotus Notes have also been criticized for violating an important usability best practice that suggests that a consistent user interface is often better than a custom alternative.
Software written for a particular operating system should follow the style guide for the user interface of that particular operating system. If you don`t follow these style guides, users can be confused. A notable example is the F5 keyboard shortcut, which is used to update the contents of windows in Microsoft Windows. By pressing F5 in Lotus Notes before version 8.0, the screen locked. As this was a big point of criticism, this was changed in version 8.0. Older versions did not support proportional scroll bars (which give the user an idea of the length of the document relative to the displayed part). [22] Proportional scroll bars were introduced only in footnote 8. [23] What`s New in IBM Notes/Domino® 9.0.1 Social Edition Feature Pack 10 1) The JVM in Designer is updated to use version 1.8 at compile time This new upgrade allows you to start the Designer client and use Java 1.8 compilation features to create applications.
For full compatibility, applications compiled in FP10 must be deployed to Notes or Domino FP10 and later. Java applications can run on Notes/Domino 9.0.1 FP8 and later when this version is upgraded to the Java 1.8 runtime. However, the best practice for the application is to compile with the lowest common denominator of the deployed client/server version. 2) Eclipse Platform updated to 4.6.2 – The FP10 9.0.1 platform will be upgraded from Eclipse 3.4.2 to Eclipse 4.6.2. These include SWT, OSGi, Jface and other related Eclipse plugins. The Notes, Designer, Embedded Sametime, and Connections plugins now use Eclipse 4.6.2. The Domino server uses Eclipse 4.6.2 OSGi bundles for access to servlets and XPages. 3) Built-in Sametime upgrade to version 9.0.1 By default, the default version of Sametime embedded in the Notes client has been upgraded to version 9.0.1 (previously 8.5.2), see important co-req in Known issues described above in technical note #2012939. 4) GSKit libraries for all client/server platforms except IBM i are upgraded to version 8.0.50.84 (which includes FIPS-certified ICC version: 8.4.1.0) for both client and server.
GSKit is used to support FIP, AES, RSA 1024+ and Diffie-Hellman. IBM i is being evaluated for a future release. 5) Japanese UI Update Technote #2013102 An optional update for the Japanese UI includes fixes for severe localization errors. The Update to the Japanese User Interface of IBM Notes Client 9.0.1 FP10 requires 9.0.1 Japanese Client USER Interface + FP10. 6) Additional installer for Notes CCM (Connections Content Manager) An add-on installer for Notes CCM eliminates the need for special fixes, but requires 9.0.1 FP10. This optional add-on allows a Notes client to view libraries from CCM for use with email and calendar. Note: Notes CCM now supports the Dutch language in addition to previously supported languages For more information about CCM, see www.ibm.com/us-en/marketplace/connections-content-management. 7) Docker support for IBM Domino Technote #2013200 Lees voor de installatie zeker even de opmerkingen op de site van IBM! IBM Notes®/Domino® 9.0.1 Feature Pack 10 Release Notice February 1, 2018 Flexnet is the system used by HCL to manage software licenses and downloads. However, it is not always easy to use. This article has some good tips. With a long history of the market and a large installed base, Notes and Domino have spawned a vast ecosystem of third-party software. These products can be divided into four large and somewhat overlapping classes: the HCL Domino server or domino client store their configuration in their own databases/application files (*.nsf).
If the operating system is Windows, no relevant configuration settings are stored in the Windows registry. Other configuration options (mainly boot configuration) are stored in notes.ini (there are currently more than 2000 known options available[17]). HCL Notes and Domino is a NoSQL client/server database environment. The server software is called HCL Domino and the client software is HCL Notes. HCL Domino software runs on mid-range Windows, Unix, AIX and HCL systems and scales to tens of thousands of users per server.
